Weekly Update
September 14, 2026
LAST WEEK: This last week, we started our EL curriculum, our Social Studies Alive Curriculum, and took both NWEA tests. That was a lot to accomplish in one week and the children did a terrific job. Thank you for your support.
LAPS TO LINCOLN: We are less than a month away from our whole school event. Please mark your calendars for Friday, October 2, 2026 for our Laps for Lincoln celebration! It will take place at Lincoln Elementary from 5-7. The PTO will once again be providing a Laps for Lincoln T-shirt to every student! Please complete the T-shirt size form by Monday, September 14th using this form. A separate form must be completed for each Lincoln student.
EL READING CURRICULUM: Learning about the purpose of schools will be our focus in this first module. As we learn, we will read about many schools around the world. This week we learned about an all girls boarding school in Kenya. It is an exciting journey that looks beyond our classroom.
SKILLS BLOCK: We began our first unit of skills block this week. Our skills block time is a daily instruction period focused on phonics (sounds a letter or letters make), decoding (reading words), and encoding (spelling). All three of these features help students “crack the code” of written language. A weekly word list will come home. Please use this list to practice our words by reading, spelling, and sorting the words by their similarities. We are here if you have any questions.
SOCIAL STUDIES ALIVE!: We finally started our new curriculum. Our first unit studies geography. In our lesson this week, we studied the features of a community through text, hands on sorting of community cards, and creating our own communities with words and pictures. There was a lot of great learning in 3 days. A review assessment showing some of the topics will come home on Monday.
