Weekly Update
October 26, 2026
Word Work: This week our class will be learning about the sounds that -ed says at the end of the words (-ed/-id, d, and t). Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.
Dress Up Days: This week we will celebrate the fun of the season with dress up days. See this flyer for each day’s fun as well as the dress-up guidelines.
Math Adding & Subtracting: Have you wondered how the base 10 strategy looks for adding and subtracting? Below
are two examples of how base 10 shorthand is used to represent the numbers and solve for
the unknown. Let me know if you have any questions.
Halloween Party: Thank you to all who have volunteered to help and/or send in supplies for our party. Our second grade party will be from 10:25-11:25 a.m. The students are looking forward to this celebration. Students may wear their costumes all day, and we will have an all school costume parade outside on the blacktop at 3:15. If it is raining, the outside parade will be canceled.
Thanksgiving Luncheon: Our Lincoln School Thanksgiving Luncheon will be Thursday, November 19th. Due to space, only volunteer servers are able to join us. Thank you for your understanding.
Math Games: Math games are a great way to practice math facts. Games build math strategies such as facts to 10, doubles facts, and doubles + 1. If your child is not solving problems this way, please consider more time for games. Some games to start with are Fishing for Ten, Addition Top It, and Salute, and Subtraction Top It. Let me know if you have any questions.
Math Night: For a 2nd year, math night for SJ 2nd graders is returning to the high school. See the flyer for details and this link to sign up.
